If your immediate family has not been touch by cancer, statistics say by 2030 you will be. If something does not change, it is predicted that one in two Americans will have cancer by the year 2030. Cancer is now the second leading cause of death in children ages 1-14. We know there are hundreds of carcinogens in our environment that cause cancer and we know that plant-based nutrition can fight the effects of those carcinogens on our body.
My question to you is what are you willing to do to insure your family stays healthy? Can you go the extra mile for a home cooked meal? Can you keep your family away from the environmental toxins that are bogging us down? The answer to that last one is Yes and No.
We are what we eat but even more so we are what we drink. Our bodies are approximately 70% water. If you could make the single biggest change for your health today, what I've found (I, as in Little Iron Mom) is that water has made the biggest impact on my family. Please read on....because I LOVE YOUR FACE...and your family too! My heart is dying for you to find what I've found.
Before there was anything; light, sun or moon, earth, plants, living creatures or anything else, there was water.
"Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." ~Genesis 1:2
Water is mentioned 722 times in the scriptures. That is less than God, Jesus, heaven or love, but many more times than faith, hope, prayer or even worship.
Water contains two of the most basic elements of life: Hydrogen and Oxygen.
Whether you are spiritual or not, it is evident that water holds much power. Power for life and well....perhaps there is a dark side to water. Unfortunately, water, one of our most precious commodities here on earth has become polluted. While we have the power to clean it up, there is much work to be done and in the meantime we have the power to choose what kind of water we drink. I believe that it is good to be educated so you can make proper choices for YOUR health and that of your family. Read on to see what I've learned...
EPA standards are set based on public health goals. However, they take into consideration the feasibility of maintaining the public health goals to set their standard. Many of the EPA's clean water drinking act’s standards for chemicals have not been updated since the 1980s, and some remain essentially unchanged since the law was passed in 1974. (NY Times)
Studies have shown that there are more than 600 unwanted chemicals created by the interaction of water treatment disinfectants and pollutants in source water (Barlow 2004, Richardson 1998, 1999a, 1999b, 2003). Studies are currently being done that link these disinfection byproducts to rectal cancer. (National Cancer Institute)
In 2005, the EPA considered lowering the legal limit for trihalomethanes to 40 parts per billion, calculating that this move would prevent nearly 1,300 bladder cancer cases each year and save the U.S. between $2.9 and $7.1 billion (EPA 2005). The agency didn't attempt to establish this lower standard as a regulation with the force of law. (Environmental Working Group)
114 contaminants are regulated by the EPA. At least 30 of these are listed by the EPA to cause cancer. (Scientific American)
Environmental Working Group frets that the remaining chemicals, which have no mandatory federal safety standards, can come in potentially toxic combinations for long-term consumption. "Utilities do the best job that they can treating a big problem with limited resources, but we must do better," said Jane Houlihan, the group's senior vice president for research. "It is not uncommon for people to drink tap water laced with 20 or 30 chemical contaminants. This water may be legal, but it raises serious health concerns." (Scientific American)
Over 80,000 industrial chemicals are registered and used in the US, many of which are water soluble and are not tested for in our water supplies. (PBS)
No studies have been done showing the effect of ingesting one or more of the contaminants at one time at the EPA minimum. Multiple contaminants are found in most municipal systems at or below the EPA standard. But even the E.P.A., which has ultimate responsibility for the Safe Drinking Water Act, has concluded that millions of Americans have been exposed to drinking water that fails to meet a federal health benchmark, according to records analyzed by The Times. (NY Times) Watch on how the EWG is re-thinking cancer here.
Chromium-6 (think Erin Brockovich) is still not regulated by the EPA and has been detected in millions of American's drinking water. The EWG has published a map here.
While water utilities across the country spend more than $50 billion a year to treat drinking water, the nation spends $207 million a year to protect source waters and prevent pollution from sources such as urban runoff, the study says. (Scientific American)
Take control of water at your tap! We do have a choice of what to drink and our city municipal systems are overburdened with treating polluted waters.
Ahhh yes...this always comes down to the almighty dollar doesn't it? If we can't afford to pay our cities for advanced filtration systems, then we have to expect to take this responsibility on ourselves and like everything else, you get what you pay for! Filtration systems have maintenance but in my mind I'd rather buy filters and keep my kidneys!
The first option is Reverse Osmosis (RO). This system does remove most contaminants but can take 3 to 5 hours to fill a small tank. Also, be sure to use a re-mineralization filter. RO produces "dead" water and drinking it can actually steal minerals from your organs and bones! We are meant to get minerals from our water.
Our favorite is advanced electrolysis with a pre-filter and and advanced filtration system. To be honest, I never would have believed in an advanced water system as a solution to my health woes till I tried it! This system allows the filtration benefits of RO with added molecular hydrogen. Read studies on the incredible health benefits here or here or just try it for yourself. You can feel the difference in a matter of days.
We are inviting anyone in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area to take our one week water challenge. We are just asking that you are serious about feeling better and committing to trying it. Many people experience less fatigue, better skin, weight loss, less water retention, better sports performance and the benefits go on and on!
We only need 10 people for our first round so please sign up ASAP!
